The White Room

On May 31 2004, Meridian Radio sadly lost one of it's most experienced broadcasters, who passed away suddenly at his home in Kent.

Tony White first joined Meridian Radio in 1973 and it was here, where after working as a club DJ, Tony said he learned to be a radio presenter. Throughout the years, Tony was always a freindly face in the studio, welcoming new members and supporting existing members as well as charity events. He was a great lover of music and his wide ranging musical tastes encompassed everything from jazz and blues to rock, pop and the Classics.

Tony worked as a journalist and broadcaster in both commercial and BBC radio and over the last few years gained much respect as a producer and researcher of TV documentaries.

For nine years Tony presented the Meridian Radio show Thursday Night at The Empire with his old friend, colleague and musical soulmate Mike Bartlett.

Tony charm and enthusiasm will never be forgotten and as a mark of respect and apprecation, we have named our new studio "The White Room," which also happened to be Tony's favourite song.
